DUNHAM RECORDS

Dunham Records relationship to Daptone is much like Volt was to Stax – two entities working under one Soulful umbrella. Founded by former Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings axman, Thomas ‘TNT’ Brenneck (original and current member of The Budos Band, and Menahan Street Band) and currently run by him and partner/fellow bandmate, Homer Steinweiss, out of his smallish bedroom in Bushwick Brooklyn, some of the earliest recordings laid to tape in this raw studio are arguably the most iconic – Charles Bradley’s ‘The World is Going Up in Flames’, and the Jay Z sampled MSB monster and eponymous LP track, ‘Make The Road By Walking’. It is almost inconceivable that recordings this lush and brutally lovely in its nakedness could come out of the privacy of a musician’s bedroom. Now located in a large loft space in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, Dunham Records has now become one of the most desirable studios in the world for analog recording.
